I have a model 10 heavy 4"heavy barrel that my mother bought in like 1977 from a local dealer brand new. She bought it cause my sister married a lunatic who was constantly calling the house threatening everyone. Anyway, I have since inherited it. Still have the box, cleaning brush, & receipt. I've only fired about 4-5 boxes of shells out of it. It is still in pristine condition,& I plan on passing it down to my son. It truly is an heirloom.

The Model 10 is my favorite handgun of all time. A beautiful shooter and gorgeous in the looks department to top it all off.

Revolvers.....f or cowboys and long dead people, piece of junk, why would you want one ??? British police with 38sp had them in the 80s what a joke, crims shooting them up with their 9mils no probs.....but that probably says more about British keystone cops than antiquated firearms.

I had one. Man that sold it to me said it would not fire. Tighten the screw and it was fine. Paid 75 for it. Let relative have it. Wish I still owned it.

Good one. I like a .09 mill better.

That was the sidearm we had to qualify on in the US Air Force for most of my career. Nice pointing and shooting gun. I always did a lot better with it at the range than the Beretta 92 when we switched to that.

The USAF also issued a lot of K-38 Combat Masterpieces alongside the Model 10 which in turn is a improved version.

Do you need to have the hammer resting on an empty chamber with that firing pin on the hammer?

I have an unfired 10-8 3 inch, and I carry a 4 inch in my truck. Just an unbeatable pistol still today

5:31 THANK GOD they finally quit making those horrible cheese grater triggers...as a rookie Cop we shot til our fingers literally bled due to those awful narrow serrated triggers... originally designed for target shooters squeezing off slow single action shots, they were about the worst design possible for rapid double action fire... ESPECIALLY in training where we were firing hundreds of rounds a day...at the end of the day that index finger middle joint area would look like raw hamburger meat...

I just bought a Model 10-7 from Classic Firearms. Great deal!

Some of those police trade-in revolvers have a good amount of holster wear but have actually been fired very little, best $299 you can spend on a handgun.
Comment on: Tuesday, January 14th, 2020 by ALEX GOLOVCHENKO
My Dad carried a model 10 on his hip for thirty years. He was a great Cop. I fired that pistol many times at the Police College Action Range with my Dad and I have many fond memories of those times. That S&W model 10 is an excellent fire arm. I was a lucky kid to have such a cool Dad, he's the "Real Deal".

Comment on: Friday, January 10th, 2020 by DTNETLURKER
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: The gun used in this review is on the very high side of the condition that most of these 10-6 and 10-8 revolvers are in. Most definitely this was a special pick (knowing it would be in a review) even if it wasn't requested. Even selecting the best of 10 won't get you one that looks quite this good.

I have a 10-8 with a pinned barrel. But it wasnt a police trade in.

I bought nickle plated 10 for my parents back in the 70's for a home protection gun and that thing would make cloverleafs at 25 yds off bench with wadcutters.

Model 10 is my favorite revolver.
Comment on: Thursday, December 26th, 2019 by M MARTINEZ
Joined the police dept. in 1982 this was the issue. Mine was used and had two notches on the grip. We had to qualify with this at up to 50 yards double action. Now days not past 25 yards with a semiautomatic. It was an ugly pistol but very accurate and effective. To bad S&W doesn't have the same quality control and care for their product as then.

"Regular" Spring? The term your looking for is coil spring. I have carried an M&P revolver since I was a kid of 14, they are awesome firearms.

When you were testing the trigger pull, it looked like the cylinder might have been dragging on your bbn palm some and giving a false reading as being too high. Am I mistaken? Thanks for the video, Sir.

Yes this K-Frame Smith and Wesson Model 10 .38 Special Military and Police is not only elegant, but historical, venerable, and classic. Though I have never personally owned an S&W Model 10, I still own the S&W Model 15 .38 Special Combat Masterpiece variant with 4" barrel and aftermarket Pachmayr combat grips. I also have a copy of John Henwood's 1997 book: "America's Right Arm: S&W Military and Police Revolver." Jack Burton's commentary: "A Gun's Autobiography: Smith and Wesson Military and Police Revolver", is well worth the reading. I have posted so many online comments on these classic historical K-Frame Smith and Wesson revolvers anything I post further will be repetitive. My three K-Frame Smith and Wesson's include the Model 15 mentioned, plus both a Model 19 and 66 "stainless" .357 Combat Magnum, 4" barrel. All are pre-1982 vintage with pinned barrel and counter-shrunk chambers in the Model 19 and 66. Good shooting. James A. "Jim" Farmer Merrill, Oregon (Klamath County) Long Live The State of Jefferson!

People don't realize that these guns will be instrumental in winning our country back...after the ar's and Autoloading guns are all banned, revolvers will be ' behind every blade of grass'
Comment on: Friday, December 13th, 2019 by CRAIGSLISTRR O
I have an old model 66 in 357 and a model 629 in 44 mag.. love them both, both can be left loaded for 100 years and still be ready if need be. Revolvers will be the future in self defense after they ban everything else.. buy one... get good with it... History repeats it'self.

"Self defense/house protection/conc ealed carry" is only half the reason for owning a .38 caliber revolver: .38 Special/ .357 Magnum. Next to a .22 or .32 for hunting small game: rabbit, squirrel, grouse, for dispatching vermin such as raccoon, skunk, possum, etc. and even for butchering livestock such as beef cattle, the .38 Special 148 grain lead target wad-cutter remains practical. Even against venomous snakes with a head shot such as rattlesnakes, for instance. For the latter CCI's classic .38 Special shot or "snake load" (No. 9 shot) is highly effective up close. For the above purposes the double-action revolver can be cocked and fired single-action, for accuracy. For defense up close in double-action. Despite the hype about Colt AR-15's, tactical firearms, etc. with a revolver it's still six shots for sure. No there is nothing wrong whatsoever for a private citizen owning a Colt AR-15 style rifle, or tactical firearm. My point: the vast majority of people, even today in the 21st century, don't require owning an arsenal. For urban/metro vs. wilderness/rura l, .38's and .357's still remain viable, useful, and practical. James A. "Jim" Farmer Merrill, Oregon (Klamath County)
